Simon Laengenfelder Commits to Red Bull KTM Through 2027

Reigning MX2 FIM Motocross World Champion Simon Laengenfelder has secured his future with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, signing a new agreement that will keep him in orange for the 2027 season.

The 21-year-old German clinched the 2025 MX2 World Championship at the final round in Australia, earning the coveted #1 plate after years of steady progression in the class. Now, Laengenfelder sets his sights on defending the title and becoming the first back-to-back MX2 champion for Red Bull KTM since 2019.

Laengenfelder will once again campaign the factory KTM 250 SX-F in 2026, lining up alongside teammate Sacha Coenen as the squad aims to maintain its dominance in the ultra-competitive MX2 division.

Since entering his first full-time MX2 Grand Prix season in 2021, Laengenfelder has developed within the KTM Motorsport structure. He celebrated his maiden GP victory at the 2022 season opener in Great Britain and secured a top-three championship finish that year. Over the next two seasons, he consistently battled at the front, adding two more top-three finishes in the standings before ultimately capturing the world title in 2025.

“I’m excited to start another chapter with KTM,” said Laengenfelder. “It’s been several strong years together and now we’re facing a new challenge this season and next. I’m really looking forward to 2026 and seeing where we stand.”

Joel Smets – Team Manager, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing

Team Manager Joel Smets reflected on Laengenfelder’s development within the program:

“We saw Simon’s potential early on when he began working with the factory riders. He’s backed that up with dedication and hard work to earn the championship. Winning a title is one thing — defending it is another challenge entirely. He’s had a solid winter, looks highly motivated, and wants to prove that 2025 was no fluke. He’s gained experience and taken another step forward. We’re excited to continue building with him this year and into the future.”

Pit Beirer – KTM Motorsports Director

KTM Motorsports Director Pit Beirer emphasized the long-term partnership:

“2026 will mark Simon’s sixth season with KTM, and his progression has been clear. He has developed into a consistent contender for Grand Prix victories and put everything together to win the title in 2025. He’s still evolving as a rider and capable of even more, which is why we’re very pleased to extend our cooperation for the coming seasons.”
