Hunter Lawrence secured his fifth victory of the 2026 Pro Motocross Championship season at Washougal MX Park, extending his 450SMX Class points lead to 12 over brother Jett Lawrence with just three races remaining. Meanwhile, Cole Davies bounced back from his worst outing of the season with a dominant 1-1 performance in the 250SMX Class, moving within seven points of championship leader Levi Kitchen.
The FLY Racing Washougal National Presented by Peterson CAT marked Round 25 of the Monster Energy SMX World Championship and the series’ final visit to the West Coast for 2026. Ideal weather conditions greeted the field at the Pacific Northwest venue, which also served as the annual Military Appreciation Race.
Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rookie Haiden Deegan topped qualifying for the first time in his debut season, posting a 2:08.223 lap that held throughout the sessions. The 18-year-old grabbed the Moto 1 holeshot before losing traction and dropping to the back of the field, allowing Jett Lawrence to assume control with Hunter Lawrence in pursuit.
Jett maintained his advantage throughout the opening moto, eventually pulling clear to win by 7.2 seconds over Hunter, with Jorge Prado a distant third. Deegan recovered brilliantly to finish fourth, gaining 26 positions after his first-corner mishap.
The Lawrence brothers led the field into the first turn of Moto 2, with Hunter quickly seizing control. Jett pressured early but made a mistake off a jump, running off-track before rejoining just ahead of Deegan. The younger Lawrence brother later regained the lead from Hunter with over 10 minutes remaining, only to crash on the face of a jump, handing victory back to his elder sibling.
Hunter held on to win by 1.4 seconds, but the drama continued post-race when officials penalised Jett one position for accelerating whilst off-track during his earlier excursion. The penalty dropped Jett from tied for the overall win to second place (1-3), whilst promoting Deegan to second in the moto and securing his fifth podium finish of the season with 4-2 scores.
In the 250SMX Class, Davies delivered a masterclass performance aboard his Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing machine. The New Zealander claimed both holeshots and controlled proceedings from start to finish, winning the opening moto by 17.1 seconds over Ryder DiFrancesco, who enjoyed a career-best runner-up result with 2-2 finishes.
Kitchen endured a difficult afternoon at his home circuit, caught in a first-turn incident in Moto 1 alongside Julien Beaumer. Both riders charged through the field, with Kitchen eventually salvaging sixth after gaining 22 positions. A 6-6 scorecard placed him fifth overall, allowing Davies to slash 18 points from his championship advantage.
Chance Hymas rounded out the 250SMX podium with consistent 3-3 finishes, securing back-to-back top-three results for Honda HRC Progressive.
The Pro Motocross Championship now enters a late-summer break before resuming on 15th August with the ELF Lubricants Unadilla National in Central New York. With three races remaining, both championship battles remain wide open heading into the decisive stretch run.
