Sacha Coenen finished tied on points for third position but was classified fourth overall at the Dutch Grand Prix in Arnhem, narrowly missing out on his ninth podium of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship season. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider was the top-performing KTM athlete at round sixteen of nineteen, held at the sandy Motorsportpark Gelderland circuit.
The Belgian delivered a 2-4 scorecard aboard his KTM 250 SX-F, leading the opening MX2 moto for 16 of 19 laps before a small mistake under pressure dropped him to second. In the second moto, Coenen battled through a four-way fight for victory to finish fourth, ultimately missing the overall podium on countback despite totalling 40 points.
“I’m disappointed,” said Coenen. “I was first in the first moto until the tip off and then had a bad start in the second. I was around P5-P6 and made some good passes. I feel some riders were a bit dirty…so I think I will show them how to ride in Turkey because it was a bit dangerous. I just need to keep my head up.”
The MX2 championship standings remain tight with just three rounds remaining. Coenen sits second, just 25 points behind leader Guillem Farres, with a maximum of 180 points still available from the final overseas triple-header in Turkey, China and Australia.
Teammate Simon Laengenfelder finished sixth overall with 7-6 results, admitting he was off the pace despite claiming the holeshot in the second moto. The German remains fourth in the championship, 75 points from the lead.
In MXGP, Andrea Adamo registered another solid performance in his rookie premier class campaign, finishing sixth overall with 5-6 moto scores. The Italian, who ran second for most of Saturday’s qualification heat before finishing third, sits fifth in the championship standings, 44 points behind teammate Lucas Coenen.
Lucas Coenen returned to action in the Netherlands after missing the Swedish Grand Prix due to left hip nerve trouble. Despite posting the fourth-fastest time in free practice, the Belgian was forced to withdraw before the qualification heat as the injury continued to cause discomfort.
The Dutch Grand Prix attracted 32,000 spectators over the weekend to the flat, sandy and technical circuit north of Arnhem. Jeffrey Herlings dominated proceedings with a 1-1 sweep in MXGP, whilst Camden McLellan claimed his first MX2 overall victory.
The world championship now heads overseas for the final triple-header, beginning with the Grand Prix of Turkey in Afyon on 5-6 September, followed by back-to-back rounds in Shanghai, China and Darwin, Australia to conclude the 2026 season by the end of September.
