Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has confirmed that Belgian Grand Prix winners Lucas and Sacha Coenen will transfer from the FIM Motocross World Championship to AMA SuperMotocross for 2027 and beyond. The twin brothers have signed a multi-year contract extension to remain as factory KTM riders whilst making the transatlantic move.
Lucas Coenen, who currently holds the MXGP red plate as championship leader in just his second season aboard the KTM 450 SX-F, has already established himself as a premier class force. The Belgian became the sport’s youngest-ever MXGP Grand Prix winner and finished as runner-up in his 2025 rookie campaign after two full-time MX2 seasons where he finished fifth and second overall.
His brother Sacha Coenen remains in fierce MX2 title contention with the KTM 250 SX-F, having grasped the red plate in 2026. The younger Coenen has claimed at least one Grand Prix victory in MX2 for the last three years, proving himself a consistent front-runner in the competitive 250 class.
The brothers have already sampled American competition with a successful wildcard appearance at the AMA Pro National motocross series in Colorado at Thunder Valley, providing a glimpse of their potential in the SuperMotocross environment.
In 2027, Lucas will contest the AMA 450SX/MX classes whilst Sacha competes in 250SX/MX, with East/West scheduling still to be determined.
“I’m pumped to be able to confirm that we’ll be in the U.S. next year,” said Lucas Coenen. “When we went to Thunder Valley it was amazing and we’ve also been bringing the results for the team in GPs until some bad luck with the hip problem. 2027 will be a big change for the family but it’s a dream to make this move.”
Sacha Coenen added: “Super-excited. We still have big goals for the rest of MX2 this year but to have this deal confirmed means we can focus on the target and also get organised for 2027. There will be a lot to learn but it’s what we want to do.”

It’s one of Red Bull KTM’s strengths that we can coordinate and provide these opportunities in different series for talented winners like the Coenens.”
Both riders remain focused on their current world championship campaigns before embarking on their American adventure in 2027.
