Husqvarna to End Factory SMX Team – Shifts to Support Model from 2027

Husqvarna Mobility has announced a major restructuring of its professional racing programme in the United States, confirming that the brand will dissolve its in-house factory team following the conclusion of the 2026 SMX World Championship season. From 2027 onwards, Husqvarna will transition to supporting independent teams and riders with factory-level materials and technical expertise.

The strategic shift marks a significant change in direction for the Swedish manufacturer, which has operated Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing as a premier force in AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross competition. The brand stated the evolution will allow it to realign its focus towards its broader heritage and wider riding community whilst maintaining a presence in racing at the highest level.

According to the announcement, Husqvarna Mobility aims to further differentiate its position within the motorcycle industry by emphasising its extensive model lineup spanning motocross, enduro, travel, naked, supermoto, and electric categories. The brand highlighted that its customer base extends far beyond stadium racing, with enthusiasts involved across multiple disciplines and activities.

Husqvarna will implement an engine leasing programme in North America as part of the transition. Building on existing infrastructure, the initiative will make factory-level engines and suspension components available to select teams and riders through a leasing model. This approach allows the manufacturer to remain active within SMX whilst repositioning its overall racing strategy.

The announcement emphasised Husqvarna’s 120-year legacy of innovation and competition, noting that the brand’s influence extends beyond professional motocross to encompass riders and explorers across various motorcycling disciplines. The manufacturer stated this repositioning reflects its commitment to supporting the diverse interests of its loyal customer base.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing will continue competing through the remainder of 2026, including the ongoing AMA Supercross Championship, the complete Pro Motocross Championship, and the SMX post-season. The team remains fully committed to competing at the pinnacle of the sport throughout its final season.

The move represents a significant departure from traditional factory team operations, with Husqvarna becoming one of the first major manufacturers to adopt this support-based model in premier-level American motocross and supercross competition. The success of the engine leasing programme and independent team partnerships will be closely watched throughout the 2027 season and beyond.
