Lachlan Turner reinforced her dominance in the 2026 Women’s Motocross Championship with a commanding 1-1 performance at Budds Creek Motocross Park, extending her points lead to 21 over rival Charli Cannon heading into the season finale at Ironman Raceway.
The penultimate round at Mechanicsville, Maryland presented challenging conditions across the two-day event, with sunny weather for Friday’s opening moto giving way to heavy morning rain on Saturday before clearing for the afternoon session. Through the evolving track conditions, the Altus Motorsports bLUcRU Yamaha rider demonstrated why she’s held the red plate all season.
In qualifying, Quad Lock Honda’s Charli Cannon edged Turner by just a tenth of a second, posting a 2:08.261 lap time to Turner’s 2:08.340. SLR Honda’s Mayla Herrick rounded out the top three.
Friday’s opening moto saw drama before the gate even dropped, as championship contender Jordan Jarvis lost power on her Dusty Rocks Yamaha and missed the start. She managed a single lap before retiring from the moto.
Taylah McCutcheon grabbed the holeshot aboard her Partzilla Blaster Power PRMX Kawasaki, whilst both championship rivals faced difficult starts outside the top 10. Turner methodically carved through from 15th on the opening lap, eventually taking the lead with four minutes remaining after Cannon made a costly mistake overjumping a section. Turner then dropped the hammer, posting her fastest lap of the moto—2.6 seconds quicker than Cannon—to pull away for a 4.4-second victory.
Mikayla Nielsen secured her fifth moto podium of the season in third, with McCutcheon fourth and Piper Bell rounding out the top five.
Saturday’s second moto began under improved conditions with Nielsen storming to the holeshot. Turner wasted no time, making the pass for the lead after just a few corners. With clear track ahead, the two-time champion opened a three-second gap on Cannon that would grow to nearly 15 seconds by the chequered flag.
Turner’s eighth moto win of the season secured her fourth overall victory and fourth 1-1 performance. Cannon matched her third 2-2 effort for second overall, whilst Nielsen ended a podium drought dating back to the opening round with a solid 3-3 performance.
“I told my dad I was going to get the holeshot and win this, and I pretty much did that,” said Turner. “I think the track was awesome and I really felt comfortable. I’m just excited to get another win and looking forward to the final round next weekend.”
Cannon acknowledged the challenge ahead: “I just let [Turner] go a bit too far. I struggled with finding my flow today. It was a tough weekend, but we’ll go back to the drawing board and keep working on the small things.”
The championship will be decided next weekend at Ironman Raceway in Indiana, with Turner holding a 21-point advantage over Cannon. The two-day finale features Moto 1 on Friday, 28 August, followed by the championship-deciding moto on Saturday, 29 August.
