Red Bull KTM Factory Racing emerged from the twelfth round of the 2026 MXGP World Championship at Foxhill with mixed results, as Simon Laengenfelder secured his sixth podium of the season with second overall in MX2, whilst championship leader Lucas Coenen was forced to retire from both MXGP motos following a Saturday crash.
The historic Foxhill circuit in Wiltshire, England, hosted a Grand Prix for the first time in 25 years, offering a characteristically rutty and technical challenge on its steep hillside terrain. The venue, notorious for hosting a weather-hit Motocross of Nations at the end of the millennium, welcomed riders and a packed crowd under summer sunshine.
Laengenfelder demonstrated strong form throughout the weekend, claiming Pole Position with a heat race victory on Saturday before posting consistent 2-2 moto finishes on Sunday. The reigning MX2 world champion came within two seconds of victory in the opening moto and grabbed the holeshot in race two before a slow-speed tip-off dropped him to second. He remounted quickly and battled with eventual winner Guillem Farres before settling for the runner-up position.
“I’m starting to feel good again and I think it is coming from attention to all the little details,” said Laengenfelder. “Getting out of a ‘hole’ is never easy but it seems I am almost back to my winning ways. A stupid crash in the second moto, I must say, but I was able to keep him on his toes.”
The German now sits third in the MX2 championship standings, just 42 points behind leader Farres, having closed the gap with three consecutive podium finishes.
Coenen’s weekend unravelled on Saturday when a collision with another rider entering the second corner resulted in a crash that left him with a sore left leg. Starting from 29th on the gate for Sunday’s opening moto, the Belgian found his way to the fringe of the top ten before being forced to pit out. He attempted the second moto but could not continue, scoring no points for the first time this season. Despite the setback, Coenen retains the red plate with an 11-point advantage over second-placed Jeffrey Herlings.
Andrea Adamo delivered a solid performance in his rookie MXGP season, posting matching 5-5 moto scores for fifth overall. The Italian sits seventh in the championship standings, just 17 points outside the top five.
In a remarkable display of determination, Sacha Coenen finished eighth overall in MX2 just six days after undergoing surgery for a broken collarbone sustained whilst winning at Southwick. The Belgian managed 10th and fifth-place finishes despite the injury, maintaining second in the championship standings, 11 points behind his brother Lucas.
The MXGP circus now heads to Loket, Czech Republic, for round 13 next weekend, where a narrow, hardpacked circuit awaits the riders before the series moves into the sand of Belgium the following week.
