Red Bull KTM Factory Racing‘s Simon Laengenfelder secured his seventh MX2 podium of the season at the demanding MXGP of Flanders in Lommel, whilst Andrea Adamo continued his impressive rookie MXGP campaign with fifth overall at round 14 of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship.
A record crowd of over 40,000 spectators witnessed four gruelling motos through the draining deep sand of Lommel under hot and dry conditions. The Belgian venue, renowned as one of the most physically and technically challenging circuits on the calendar, lived up to its reputation as both KTM riders delivered strong performances.
Laengenfelder demonstrated consistency across both MX2 motos, posting 2-3 finishes aboard his KTM 250 SX-F to claim third overall. The German, who is the reigning world champion, sits 70 points from the championship lead and is now the joint-third most successful MX2 racer in 2026 with seven podiums.
“Three consistent motos and without any big mistakes – which is already better than last weekend! – and I’m happy about that,” said Laengenfelder. “Coming away with a podium is also positive because we all know Lommel is a tough GP. A good way to bounce back from Loket and Sweden next, which is a cool one.”
In the premier MXGP class, Adamo showed impressive sand-riding ability on his KTM 450 SX-F. After running inside the top three at the start of moto one, the Italian settled into sixth. A crash on lap four of the second moto dropped him outside the top ten, but he fought back brilliantly to fifth place, securing fifth overall and moving up to fifth in the world championship standings.
“5th overall in Lommel is better than just ‘good enough’,” said Adamo. “A break next week then hardpack in Sweden and overseas to the last Grands Prix. It will go quickly but I’m looking forward to it.”
Sacha Coenen, still recovering from a broken right collarbone sustained three weeks prior, battled through pain to finish sixth overall in MX2 with 6-7 results at his home Grand Prix. The Belgian remains second in the championship standings, 47 points from the lead. His twin brother Lucas Coenen was unable to compete due to a lingering left hip issue from a crash at the British GP and will undergo further medical evaluation this week.
The MXGP series now takes a weekend break before returning for back-to-back rounds, beginning with the Grand Prix of Sweden at Uddevalla on 15-16 August, followed by the Grand Prix of the Netherlands at Arnhem.
