The 2026 Women’s Motocross Championship will reach its dramatic conclusion this weekend at Ironman Raceway in Indiana, where reigning champion Lachlan Turner and Charli Cannon will battle for the title in what has been one of the most competitive seasons in the championship’s history.
Altus Motorsports bLUcRU Yamaha’s Turner brings a 21-point advantage into the finale, having dominated much of the season with eight moto wins and four overall victories. Her Australian rival, Quad Lock Honda’s Cannon, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with her first moto win and maiden overall victory on American soil, backing it up with nine moto podiums and four runner-up finishes.
Turner can clinch the championship early if she gains four points over Cannon in Friday’s opening moto, extending her lead to the decisive 25-point threshold. The Yamaha rider also holds the tiebreaker advantage. For Cannon to keep her title hopes alive heading into Saturday’s final moto, she’ll need to stay close to Turner throughout Friday’s race.
Adding significant intrigue to the weekend is the WMX debut of Daniela Guillen, the Spanish rider who currently leads the FIM MXW Championship in MXGP with one round remaining. Guillen has secured two victories and two runner-up finishes in the European series and will join the Wildcat Race Team aboard a GASGAS machine for her first American appearance. Her presence could prove pivotal in determining the championship outcome.
Behind the title fight, a fierce three-way battle is unfolding for third place in the championship. Partzilla Blaster Power PRMX Kawasaki’s Taylah McCutcheon currently holds the position but sits just three points ahead of SLR Honda’s Mikayla Nielsen and Dusty Rocks Yamaha’s Jordan Jarvis, who are tied for fourth. Nielsen’s recent podium at Budds Creek has reinvigorated her challenge, whilst both McCutcheon and Jarvis struggled at the previous round.
The weekend’s action begins on Friday, 28th August, with qualifying and the opening 12 Minutes + 1 Lap moto streaming live on SMX Friday Live Presented by Honda via the SuperMotocross YouTube channel at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET. Saturday’s championship-deciding moto will air live on Peacock and SMX Video Pass as part of the comprehensive coverage from Ironman, with the official championship ceremony to follow.
The WMX series has experienced unprecedented growth throughout 2026, with this weekend marking a historic moment as three champions will be crowned across all classes for the first time. Turner and Cannon have captured all but one moto and every overall result this season, establishing themselves as the two best starters and finishers in the series.
